Grass pea and pea phylogenetic relatedness reflected at Fusarium oxysporum host range

چکیده

Vascular wilt, caused by the infection of soil-borne pathogen Fusarium oxysporum (Fo), is one most destructive diseases many crops, including legumes such as grass pea (Lathyrus sativus), with several formae speciales (ff. spp.) defined according to their hosts. Commonly described host-specific, Fo could, in some cases, show a broader host range comprising related plant species, making its characterization an important aspect epidemiology and crop protection. No information on identification status strains able infect available, nor whether could act different ff. spp.. In this study, two isolated from (Fo ex. L. sativus 1 2) was evaluated using legume species: (Pisum sativum), lentil (Lens culinaris), chickpea (Cicer arietinum), common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), barrel medic (Medicago truncatula). addition, responses causal agents fusarium wilt these f. sp. pisi, lentis, ciceris, phaseoli, medicaginis, were also investigated. Disease symptom evaluation disease rating over time, area under progress curve (AUDPC) rate (DIr), revealed that 2 are infecting only although low aggressiveness. Grass be infected pisi races, race being virulent strain pea, even more than retrieved originally pea. The phylogenetic relatedness between may part explain observation, indicating can legume-related species Additionally, specialization might occurring, particular isolates lower virulence itself. These cross-inoculation results reinforce importance performing host-range studies, specialist pathogens, identify potential closely alternative hosts consequently improve or adapt control management.

Efficient intergeneric fusion of pea (Pisum sativum L.) and grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) protoplasts.

Large numbers of viable protoplasts of pea (Pisum sativum) and grass pea (Lathyrus sativus) were efficiently and reproducibly obtained and, for the first time, fused. Different procedures for fusion were compared, based either on electrofusion (750, 1000, 1250 or 1500 V cm(-1)), or on the use of macro or micromethods with a polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000 or PEG 1540), or a glycine/high pH soluti...

The Effect of Orobanche crenata Infection Severity in Faba Bean, Field Pea, and Grass Pea Productivity

Broomrape weeds (Orobanche and Phelipanche spp.) are root holoparasites that feed off a wide range of important crops. Among them, Orobanche crenata attacks legumes complicating their inclusion in cropping systems along the Mediterranean area and West Asia. The detrimental effect of broomrape parasitism in crop yield can reach up to 100% depending on infection severity and the broomrape-crop as...

Variation and Association Analysis in Grass Pea (lathyrus Sativus L.)

The study was conducted on 50 landrace populations of grass pea at Adet Research Center, Ethiopia, using Randomised Complete Block Design in three replications to determine morphological variability and character associations. Evaluations were made on plant and yield characters from eight plants tagged randomly from each plot. The data were subjected to Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), heritabilit...

Rapid and Efficient Estimation of Pea Resistance to the Soil-Borne Pathogen Fusarium oxysporum by Infrared Imaging

Fusarium wilts are widespread diseases affecting most agricultural crops. In absence of efficient alternatives, sowing resistant cultivars is the preferred approach to control this disease. However, actual resistance sources are often overcome by new pathogenic races, forcing breeders to continuously search for novel resistance sources. Selection of resistant accessions, mainly based on the eva...

Physical and Chemical Barriers in Root Tissues Contribute to Quantitative Resistance to Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. pisi in Pea

Fusarium wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. pisi (Fop) is one of the most destructive diseases of pea worldwide. Control of this disease is difficult and it is mainly based on the use of resistant cultivars. While monogenic resistance has been successfully used in the field, it is at risk of breakdown by the constant evolution of the pathogen. New sources of quantitative resistance have b...
